






Here is what we were working with - a pair of old dry-stacked stone walls running along both sides of the driveway. They had been there for years, and honestly, they had seen better days. The stones were shifting, the walls were crumbling in spots, and the whole setup was eating into usable driveway space. Not exactly a great first impression from the road.
The homeowner wanted more room to work with - a wider driveway that could actually handle the way the property gets used day to day. To make that happen, we had to tear out both of those old stone walls completely, haul everything off site, and start fresh. That meant demo, disposal, and a clean slate before any new work could begin. We brought in a compact track loader to break it all down and clear the area out efficiently without tearing up the surrounding property.
Once we had the space opened up, we got to work on the new retaining walls on both sides. We went with concrete segmental block - a big step up from the old fieldstone in terms of both strength and appearance. The new walls are built to actually hold the grade properly, with consistent coursing and a clean, uniform face from top to bottom. That curved corner detail on the right wall in particular took some careful layout to get right, but it follows the grade naturally and finishes the corner of the driveway in a way that looks intentional.
Behind the new walls, we seeded the disturbed areas and laid straw to protect the seed while it establishes. The driveway itself was regraded and compacted, giving the homeowner a significantly wider and more functional parking and driving surface than what was there before. The whole front of the property reads completely differently now - cleaner, more structured, and a lot more usable.
